Comb Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian comb market reduced rapidly to $X in 2022, waning by -84.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, comb production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of combs and hair-slides exported in Central Asia surged to X tons, picking up by 127% on the previous year. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 286% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, comb exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 198% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the major exporter of combs and hair-slides, creating 56% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X kg) and Kazakhstan (X kg), together committing a 43% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the combs and hair-slides exports, with a CAGR of +100.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+27.9%) and Tajikistan (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan increased by +56 and +12 percentage points, respectively.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -28.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 10%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (-7.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, imports of combs and hair-slides in Central Asia declined markedly to X tons, shrinking by -83.1% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 257%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, comb imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 329%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the main importer of combs and hair-slides in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 61% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Tajikistan (5.9%), Kyrgyzstan (5.6%) and Turkmenistan (4.6%). Mongolia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+59.4%), Mongolia (+36.6%), Turkmenistan (+27.4%) and Tajikistan (+22.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +59.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-12.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+20 p.p.), Tajikistan (+4.5 p.p.), Turkmenistan (+3.9 p.p.) and Mongolia (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-32.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported combs and hair-slides in Central Asia, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+37.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+45.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, waning by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 24%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
