Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, computing machinery exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced contraction. Kazakhstan represented the major exporter of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof in Central Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 77% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), mixing up a 17% share of total exports. The following exporters - Uzbekistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to computing machinery exports from Kazakhstan stood at -14.7%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+33.7%), Kyrgyzstan (+33.5%) and Turkmenistan (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +33.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased by +17 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest computing machinery supplier in Central Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at -5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+29.9% per year) and Uzbekistan (+45.0% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 89% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof increased by 55% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, computing machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key importer of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof, creating 72% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (6.6%) and Mongolia (4.7%). Turkmenistan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+17.2%), Tajikistan (+4.8%), Mongolia (+4.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +17.2% from 2012-2021. Turkmenistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Uzbekistan (+8.3 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+2.4 p.p.) and Mongolia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -13.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof in Central Asia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 4.6% share.

In Kazakhstan, computing machinery imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+35.6% per year) and Mongolia (+2.4% per year).
