The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 1,157%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sweetened condensed and evaporated milk exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 1,111% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Uzbekistan was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together achieving a 37% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the condensed or evaporated milk (sweetened) exports, with a CAGR of +59.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+38.7%) and Kazakhstan (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Uzbekistan (+63 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+9.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-71.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 100% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +73.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 25%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+11.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After four years of decline, overseas purchases of condensed or evaporated milk (sweetened) increased by 4.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sweetened condensed and evaporated milk imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a deep slump. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 68% of total imports in 2022. Mongolia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.8% share, followed by Uzbekistan (6.9%), Kyrgyzstan (5.9%), Tajikistan (5.6%) and Turkmenistan (5.3%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sweetened condensed and evaporated milk imports into Kazakhstan stood at -9.6%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mongolia (-1.4%), Tajikistan (-8.0%), Kyrgyzstan (-12.4%) and Turkmenistan (-22.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+6.9 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+5.9 p.p.) and Mongolia (+4.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan saw its share reduced by -1.5% and -17.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported condensed or evaporated milk (sweetened) in Central Asia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan totaled -7.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+23.3% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-9.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 33% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sweetened condensed and evaporated milk import price increased by +87.2% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
