Cream Fresh Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian cream fresh market rose sharply to $X in 2022, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption posted a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Kazakhstan (X tons) remains the largest cream fresh producing country in Central Asia, comprising approx. 93% of total volume. Moreover, cream fresh production in Kazakhstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Kyrgyzstan (X tons), more than tenfold.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of cream fresh exported in Central Asia surged to X tons, jumping by 389% on the previous year. In general, exports posted significant growth. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cream fresh exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 203% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), constituting a 29% share of total exports.

Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cream fresh exports, with a CAGR of +104.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+24.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+69 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-69.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest cream fresh supplying countries in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X).

In terms of the main exporting countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +76.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -46.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 103% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+4.7%).

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of cream fresh imported in Central Asia soared to X tons, rising by 24% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 155% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cream fresh imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 113%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the key importer of cream fresh, constituting 79% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons). All these countries together held near 18% share of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+103.2%), Mongolia (+50.5%) and Kyrgyzstan (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +103.2% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia increased by +27, +4.6 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cream fresh in Central Asia, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +19.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+6.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+116.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cream fresh import price increased by +14.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+6.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
