In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Central Asian marble and travertine crude market, when its value decreased by -3.9% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption saw a perceptible shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the crude exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, marble and travertine crude exports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 6,429% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the crude exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Uzbekistan prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 98% of total exports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest marble and travertine crude supplier in Central Asia, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 0.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Uzbekistan amounted to +21.7%.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -31.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 631%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan totaled $X per ton.

Over the period under review, crude imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Kazakhstan represented the major importer of marble and travertine in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 76% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Turkmenistan (6.5%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to marble and travertine crude imports into Kazakhstan stood at -17.4%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+122.5%) and Kyrgyzstan (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +122.5% from 2012-2022. Turkmenistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Turkmenistan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 96% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +69.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -13.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
