Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 231%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+69.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the largest importer of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones in Central Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 72% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons), together creating a 28% share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones imports, with a CAGR of +7.7% from 2012 to 2022. Mongolia (-12.4%), Kyrgyzstan (-18.5%) and Uzbekistan (-43.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+70 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+9.9 p.p.) and Mongolia (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Uzbekistan (-84.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest precious stone and pearl importing markets in Central Asia were Kyrgyzstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together accounting for 97% of total imports.

Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +27.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
