Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Mongolia (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units) represented the major importers of diesel-electric locomotives in Central Asia, together recording near 69% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Turkmenistan (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units). All these countries together took near 31% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +8.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, diesel-electric locomotive import price increased by +78.1% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+18.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
