In 2021, overseas shipments of electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes decreased by -16% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 304%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes exports expanded to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 498% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Uzbekistan (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2021.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes increased by 33% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 59%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan was the main importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 68% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Uzbekistan (8.2%). Mongolia (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes imports into Kazakhstan stood at +3.8%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+39.0%), Uzbekistan (+9.2%) and Mongolia (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +39.0% from 2012-2021. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes in Central Asia, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 5.4% share.

In Kazakhstan, electro-thermic appliances or domestic purposes imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+22.4% per year) and Mongolia (+6.5% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, falling by -32.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
