Candied Fruit Market Size in Central Asia

For the tenth year in a row, the Central Asian candied fruit market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 73% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption showed prominent growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Candied Fruit Production in Central Asia

In value terms, candied fruit production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Uzbekistan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together accounting for 99.9% of total production.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +5.9%), while production for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the production figures.

Candied Fruit Exports

Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, exports of candied fruits in Central Asia shrank rapidly to X tons, waning by -82.3% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 2,711%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, candied fruit exports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 1,650%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan represented the key exporter of candied fruits in Central Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 70% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), generating a 26% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to candied fruit exports from Uzbekistan stood at -10.2%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+41.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +41.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+70 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -80.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest candied fruit supplier in Central Asia, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan stood at +14.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+41.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (-4.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 433% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed resilient growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+27.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, the amount of candied fruits imported in Central Asia surged to X tons, picking up by 41% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 224% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, candied fruit imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 269% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 95% of total imports in 2021. Mongolia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +36.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mongolia (+53.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (+41.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +53.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mongolia increased by +2.2 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported candied fruits in Central Asia, comprising 98% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 1.9% share of total imports.

In Kazakhstan, candied fruit imports expanded at an average annual rate of +46.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+47.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+22.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, candied fruit import price increased by +46.5% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
