In value terms, dried or smoked fish exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key exporter of dried or smoked fish in Central Asia, generating 99% of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried or smoked fish exports, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest dried or smoked fish supplier in Central Asia.

In 2021, approx. X tons of dried or smoked fish were imported in Central Asia; which is down by -10.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dried or smoked fish imports amounted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine years. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a 9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (5.9%). Turkmenistan (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dried or smoked fish imports into Kazakhstan stood at +5.7%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+63.7%), Mongolia (+31.5%) and Kyrgyzstan (+24.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +63.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-24.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried or smoked fish in Central Asia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 3.5% share.

In Kazakhstan, dried or smoked fish imports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+89.3% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.9% per year).

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
