In 2022, overseas shipments of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products increased by 4% to X tons, rising for the seventh year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 110%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, pasta products exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 128%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), committing a 9.3% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+19.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (+17.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +19.1% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased by +3.5 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest pasta products supplier in Central Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.
In Kazakhstan, pasta products exports increased at an average annual rate of +20.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+29.1% per year) and Uzbekistan (+29.7% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a resilient increase. Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, the amount of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products imported in Central Asia rose markedly to X tons, picking up by 7.4% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 35%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, pasta products imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the largest importer of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products, mixing up 33% of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (15%), Mongolia (15%), Turkmenistan (12%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.4%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Mongolia ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 79% of total imports.
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +28.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
