Exports in Central Asia

For the third consecutive year, Central Asia recorded growth in shipments abroad of electrical apparatus for circuit connection, switching and protection, which increased by 17% to X tons in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +51.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 81%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electrical circuit apparatus exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting 90% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.5% share, followed by Uzbekistan (30%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electrical apparatus for circuit connection, switching and protection exports from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan stood at +17.2% and -0.8%, respectively. Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Kyrgyzstan (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan increased by +36 percentage points. Kyrgyzstan (-10.6 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (-24.7 p.p.) saw their shares reduced.

In Kazakhstan, electrical circuit apparatus exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (-8.9% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-6.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, electrical circuit apparatus imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together comprising 82% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a 3.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Tajikistan (6.2%), Turkmenistan (4.3%) and Uzbekistan (34%). The following importers - Mongolia (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) - each recorded a 12% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest electrical circuit apparatus importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Tajikistan ($X), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +14.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -4.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 1.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
