Diagnostic equipment exports shrank remarkably to X units in 2021, declining by -56.8% compared with 2020. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 364%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, diagnostic equipment exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 159% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Kazakhstan represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 49% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkmenistan (15%) and Mongolia (9.7%). The following exporters - Tajikistan (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) - each reached a 3.9% share of total exports.

Exports from Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -3.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+64.2%), Turkmenistan (+22.1%), Kyrgyzstan (+18.5%) and Tajikistan (+13.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +64.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mongolia (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kyrgyzstan (+17 p.p.), Turkmenistan (+12 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mongolia and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -10.2% and -22.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest diagnostic equipment supplier in Central Asia, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 10% share.

In Kazakhstan, diagnostic equipment exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+0.5% per year) and Turkmenistan (-0.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 77% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

For the third year in a row, Central Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus, which increased by 8.9% to X units in 2021. In general, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 88%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, diagnostic equipment imports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 115%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X units), Mongolia (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units), together constituting an 18% share of total imports. The following importers - Tajikistan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) - each amounted to a 6.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to diagnostic equipment imports into Kazakhstan stood at +8.4%. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+11.8%), Tajikistan (+10.8%) and Mongolia (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +11.8% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+5 p.p.) and Turkmenistan (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-7.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus in Central Asia, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled +3.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+17.4% per year) and Turkmenistan (+9.0% per year).
