The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 167% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ethanol exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan represented the largest exporter of ethyl alcohol in Central Asia, with the volume of exports recording X litres, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X litres), constituting a 13% share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ethyl alcohol exports, with a CAGR of -1.6% from 2012 to 2022. Kyrgyzstan (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, waning by -4.5% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ethanol export price increased by +60.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 68% against the previous year. Imports in Central Asia

Ethanol imports reduced to X litres in 2022, dropping by -11.1% compared with the year before. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 80%. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ethanol imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkmenistan dominates imports structure, finishing at X litres, which was approx. 94% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Kazakhstan (X litres) and Kyrgyzstan (X litres) - together made up 5.6% of total imports.

Turkmenistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of ethyl alcohol. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+112.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +112.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkmenistan (+3.5 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -5.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ethyl alcohol in Central Asia, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 3.7% share of total imports.

In Turkmenistan, ethanol imports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-7.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+84.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable descent.
