Imports in Central Asia

First-aid kit imports fell markedly to X tons in 2022, which is down by -44.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 224% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, first-aid kit imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 103% against the previous year. The following importers - Turkmenistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - each amounted to a 6.1% share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the first-aid boxes and kits imports, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Mongolia (-5.8%), Kyrgyzstan (-14.4%) and Tajikistan (-18.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+46 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-9.4 p.p.), Tajikistan (-15 p.p.) and Mongolia (-22.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported first-aid boxes and kits in Central Asia, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +13.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mongolia (-13.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-5.7% per year).
