Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber were exported in Central Asia; waning by -52.9% compared with 2020. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 801% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, vulcanised rubber mats exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 583%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber exports, with a CAGR of +52.4% from 2012 to 2021. Kazakhstan (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+97 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-54.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest vulcanised rubber mats supplier in Central Asia, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, vulcanised rubber mats exports increased at an average annual rate of +81.4% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 78% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+19.0%).

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, overseas purchases of floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber decreased by -20.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vulcanised rubber mats imports reached $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 88%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 49% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (15%) and Kyrgyzstan (14%). The following importers - Turkmenistan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - each amounted to a 6.2% share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -2.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tajikistan (+5.8%), Mongolia (+3.9%), Uzbekistan (+3.4%) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +5.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+16 p.p.) and Mongolia (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -3.8% and -17.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber in Central Asia, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to -2.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+23.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+8.2% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
