In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, exports of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Central Asia fell notably to X tons, with a decrease of -43.8% on 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, enjoyed temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 275% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together achieving 98% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Turkmenistan (with a CAGR of +2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X) remains the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplier in Central Asia, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 1.4% share of total exports.
In Turkmenistan, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (-12.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (-26.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine
Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, overseas purchases of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines decreased by -42.3% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 194%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkmenistan (X tons) was the key importer of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines, making up 73% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), together making up a 23% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkmenistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines imports, with a CAGR of +36.1% from 2012 to 2021. Tajikistan (-3.7%), Kazakhstan (-13.6%), Mongolia (-14.7%) and Uzbekistan (-42.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan increased by +71 and +6.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Turkmenistan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), together accounting for 90% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Turkmenistan, with a CAGR of +33.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 159%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
