The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest frozen fish fillet supplying countries in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Tajikistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X).

Among the main exporting countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +59.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+17.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, purchases abroad of frozen fish fillet was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen fish fillet imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a measured expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 70% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), achieving a 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Mongolia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - each finished at a 4.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen fish fillet imports into Kazakhstan stood at -2.2%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+15.9%) and Mongolia (+14.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +15.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-14.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Mongolia increased by +24 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen fish fillet in Central Asia, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 4.4% share.

In Kazakhstan, frozen fish fillet imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+28.1% per year) and Mongolia (+15.3% per year).

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 24% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
