Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, overseas shipments of glucose and glucose syrup increased by 33% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, glucose exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2021.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glucose and glucose syrup exports, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Kazakhstan (+11 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest glucose supplier in Central Asia.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at +30.5%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 34% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, glucose export price increased by +60.0% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +0.6% per year.

Glucose Imports

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of glucose and glucose syrup were imported in Central Asia; falling by -25% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 74%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, glucose imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of glucose and glucose syrup, namely Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) - each amounted to an 8.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +45.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Tajikistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 90% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +46.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 51% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Turkmenistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
