In 2022, shipments abroad of glutamic acid and its salts decreased by -82.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The biggest shipments were from Kazakhstan (X tons), together amounting to 100% of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glutamic acid and its salts exports, with a CAGR of +47.0% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest glutamic acid supplier in Central Asia.

Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 567%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glutamic acid imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 298%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the largest importer of glutamic acid and its salts, achieving 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together generating a 42% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +323.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 98% share of total imports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 52%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+22.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
