Exports from Turkmenistan decreased at an average annual rate of -4.9% from 2012 to 2021. Mongolia (-1.7%), Kazakhstan (-16.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (-23.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkmenistan (+20 p.p.) and Mongolia (+5.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -3.5% and -19.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest goat hides and skins supplying countries in Central Asia were Mongolia ($X), Turkmenistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.

Mongolia, with a CAGR of +6.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -22% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 129% against the previous year. In 2021, supplies from abroad of goat or kid hides and skins decreased by -46.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a sharp shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
