After two years of decline, the Central Asian plastic headgear market increased by 6% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption posted a prominent increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In 2022, shipments abroad of headgear of rubber or plastic decreased by -27.3% to X units, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 1,032% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic headgear exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The shipments of the one major exporters of headgear of rubber or plastic, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the headgear of rubber or plastic exports, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Kazakhstan (+8.8 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest plastic headgear supplier in Central Asia.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, plastic headgear imports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, reaching X units, which was near 90% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units), generating a 4.6% share of total imports. Mongolia (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic headgear imports into Kazakhstan stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+33.7%), Mongolia (+32.3%) and Uzbekistan (+15.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +33.7% from 2012-2022. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+4.2 p.p.), Mongolia (+2.4 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported headgear of rubber or plastic in Central Asia, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 2.2% share.

In Kazakhstan, plastic headgear imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mongolia (+30.7% per year) and Uzbekistan (+16.8% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
