The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 169% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per unit.

In 2022, overseas purchases of headphones were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 215%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X units) was the major importer of headphones, comprising 69% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X units). All these countries together held approx. 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Mongolia (X units) and Turkmenistan (X units) - together made up 4.4% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to headphone imports into Kazakhstan stood at +19.3%. At the same time, Mongolia (+35.1%), Kyrgyzstan (+29.7%) and Turkmenistan (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +35.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-31.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kyrgyzstan (+9.2 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+7.5 p.p.) and Mongolia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -3.9% and -13.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported headphones in Central Asia, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 2.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +28.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+30.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+28.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a buoyant increase.
