After two years of growth, overseas shipments of canned meat decreased by -71% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 80%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, canned meat exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the largest exporter of canned meat in Central Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 73% of total exports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together held near 27% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned meat exports from Kazakhstan stood at -9.6%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+74.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +74.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-20.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+15 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+7.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -18.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest canned meat supplier in Central Asia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
In Kazakhstan, canned meat exports declined by an average annual rate of -10.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (-27.7% per year) and Uzbekistan (+73.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of canned meat, when their volume decreased by -0.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 64%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, canned meat imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 65% of total imports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.5% share, followed by Tajikistan (9.3%), Mongolia (8.4%) and Uzbekistan (5.9%). Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned meat imports into Kazakhstan stood at +20.4%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+60.0%), Mongolia (+17.7%), Kyrgyzstan (+17.5%) and Tajikistan (+10.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +60.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-21.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+32 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5.9 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+3.6 p.p.) and Mongolia (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-44 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported canned meat in Central Asia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +16.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mongolia (+20.2% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+15.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild setback. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+7.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
