Over the period under review, exports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 622% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, plastic household articles exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 279% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2022. Turkmenistan (X tons) held a 6.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (6.3%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic household articles exports from Uzbekistan stood at +31.1%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+69.8%) and Turkmenistan (+28.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +69.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+86 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+5.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkmenistan (-8.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest plastic household articles supplier in Central Asia, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan stood at +40.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+53.1% per year) and Turkmenistan (+11.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -0.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the key importer of household articles and toilet articles of plastics in Central Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (11%) and Uzbekistan (6%). Tajikistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +25.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported household articles and toilet articles of plastics in Central Asia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at +4.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+20.1% per year) and Mongolia (+4.7% per year).

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 22% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
