Overall, exports continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 165%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hydrogen chloride exports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 167%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the key exporter of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) in Central Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), constituting a 12% share of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) exports, with a CAGR of +8.5% from 2012 to 2021. Kyrgyzstan (-3.5%) and Uzbekistan (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at +7.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (-9.2% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-16.0% per year).

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -40.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 87%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) imported in Central Asia surged to X tons, jumping by 16% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, faced a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 124%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hydrogen chloride imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X tons), committing a 4.7% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hydrogen chloride imports into Kazakhstan stood at -13.8%. At the same time, Mongolia (+23.4%) and Tajikistan (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +23.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mongolia (+4.5 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) in Central Asia, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 3.1% share.

In Kazakhstan, hydrogen chloride imports declined by an average annual rate of -18.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+17.8% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-10.9% per year).
