Exports in Central Asia

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of industrial bakery machinery decreased by -69.9% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 775% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, industrial bakery machinery exports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 732%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkmenistan prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 78% of total exports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X units) held a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (9.5%). Kazakhstan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to industrial bakery machinery exports from Turkmenistan stood at -29.3%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+76.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +76.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-10.9%) and Kazakhstan (-19.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan increased by +78 and +9.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X) emerged as the largest industrial bakery machinery supplier in Central Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkmenistan stood at -29.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+83.2% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-8.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 76% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, approx. X units of industrial bakery machinery were imported in Central Asia; increasing by 9.6% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 155%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial bakery machinery imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan was the main importer of industrial bakery machinery in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was near 48% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 29% share, followed by Mongolia (8.2%), Kyrgyzstan (8.1%) and Turkmenistan (6.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mongolia (with a CAGR of +8.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Mongolia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 93% share of total imports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +13.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, surging by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
