After two years of growth, overseas shipments of inedible fish products decreased by -40.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 117% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, inedible fish products exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 144%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the major exporter of inedible fish products, mixing up 62% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), mixing up a 38% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +35.0%).
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest inedible fish products supplier in Central Asia, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.
In Uzbekistan, inedible fish products exports expanded at an average annual rate of +66.2% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 77% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted buoyant growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+23.2%).

Imports in Central Asia
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of inedible fish products decreased by -87.6% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 532%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, inedible fish products imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 482%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the largest importer of inedible fish products in Central Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (12%). Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+234.4%), Kyrgyzstan (+33.8%) and Tajikistan (+14.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +234.4% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+28 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Tajikistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -33.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 99% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +71.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 229% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed resilient growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
