Wire And Cable Market Size in Central Asia

After three years of decline, the Central Asian wire and cable market increased by 5.4% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wire and cable production contracted slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, wire and cable exports in Central Asia contracted rapidly to X tons, dropping by -33.2% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 368%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wire and cable exports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 411% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), generating a 21% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wire and cable exports from Uzbekistan stood at -2.7%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +3.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+77 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-66.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest wire and cable supplier in Central Asia, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, wire and cable exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 36% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+10.4%).

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of insulated wire and cable were imported in Central Asia; surging by 9.4% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wire and cable imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan was the major importer of insulated wire and cable in Central Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2021. Turkmenistan (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (11%), Uzbekistan (7%) and Kyrgyzstan (5.7%). Tajikistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of insulated wire and cable. At the same time, Tajikistan (+10.7%), Uzbekistan (+5.8%) and Mongolia (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012-2021. Kyrgyzstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+7 p.p.), Mongolia (+3 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan saw its share reduced by -11.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported insulated wire and cable in Central Asia, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at -1.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkmenistan (-7.6% per year) and Uzbekistan (+16.4% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+10.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
