The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, inulin imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 204%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kyrgyzstan represented the major importer of inulin in Central Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 56% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X kg) and Kazakhstan (X kg), together generating a 40% share of total imports. Mongolia (X kg) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Kyrgyzstan increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+31.1%) and Kazakhstan (+11.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +31.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mongolia (-20.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+24 p.p.), Mongolia (+3.6 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -30.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest inulin importing markets in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), with a combined 99% share of total imports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +38.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 163% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 187%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
