Lemon And Lime Market Size in Central Asia
For the third consecutive year, the Central Asian lemon and lime market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 4.6% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +60.2% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, lemon and lime production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 173%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Uzbekistan (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of lemon and lime production, comprising approx. 67% of total volume. Moreover, lemon and lime production in Uzbekistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Tajikistan (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Uzbekistan amounted to +26.4%.
The average lemon and lime yield surged to X tons per ha in 2022, increasing by 16% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the yield increased by 52%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of lemons and limes were harvested in Central Asia; reducing by -13.3% compared with the year before. In general, the harvested area, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the harvested area increased by 36%. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports in Central Asia
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of lemons and limes increased by 25% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 1,161% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lemon and lime exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 3,007% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons), constituting a 7.7% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Uzbekistan increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+61.7%), Tajikistan (+56.2%) and Kazakhstan (+50.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +61.7% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+87 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-10.3 p.p.), Kazakhstan (-26.2 p.p.) and Tajikistan (-50.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest lemon and lime supplier in Central Asia, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 2.1% share.
In Uzbekistan, lemon and lime exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tajikistan (+38.8% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+45.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 146%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, purchases abroad of lemons and limes increased by 25% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 87%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the largest importer of lemons and limes in Central Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 62% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (16%). Turkmenistan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+119.0%), Turkmenistan (+10.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +119.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +19 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lemons and limes in Central Asia, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +6.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+112.2% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 5.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
