In 2022, the Central Asian loading machinery market decreased by -2.8% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -16.6% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Loading Machinery Production in Central Asia
In value terms, loading machinery production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -1.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery increased by 13% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 206%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, loading machinery exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 368%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then plummeted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan was the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), comprising a 39% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +4.2%).
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest loading machinery supplier in Central Asia, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
In Uzbekistan, loading machinery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -28.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 155% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+6.5%).
Loading Machinery Imports
Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, overseas purchases of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery decreased by -8.7% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 135%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, loading machinery imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 97%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the major importer of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was near 76% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X units) and Mongolia (X units), together constituting an 18% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X units) and Tajikistan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to loading machinery imports into Kazakhstan stood at +7.5%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+15.8%), Uzbekistan (+5.9%) and Mongolia (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +15.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-19.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+19 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkmenistan (-32.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery in Central Asia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 6.4% share.
In Kazakhstan, loading machinery imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+6.1% per year) and Mongolia (-4.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 26%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkmenistan (+11.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
