In general, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 871% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grinding machine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 87% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X units), making up a 6.6% share of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machines having individual functions, for mixing, kneading, crushing or grinding exports, with a CAGR of +35.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+15.5%) and Turkmenistan (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-18.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+27 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-5.2 p.p.) and Turkmenistan (-25 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest grinding machine supplier in Central Asia, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 2.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 1.3% share.

In Kazakhstan, grinding machine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (-8.1% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-22.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 261%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Turkmenistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of machines having individual functions, for mixing, kneading, crushing or grinding in Central Asia skyrocketed to X units, jumping by 138% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 155%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +29.3% from 2012-2021. Turkmenistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+8.8 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+6.8 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-14.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest grinding machine importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), with a combined 92% share of total imports. Turkmenistan and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7%.

Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +13.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -56.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 86% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
