Malt Market Size in Central Asia
For the third consecutive year, the Central Asian malt market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 3.7% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, saw a slight contraction. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Malt Production in Central Asia
In value terms, malt production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 18%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Malt Exports
Exports in Central Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of malt were exported in Central Asia; standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, exports showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 158%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, malt exports totaled $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 117%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the one major exporters of malt, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the malt exports, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest malt supplier in Central Asia.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at -2.7%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 16%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to -8.2% per year.
Malt Imports
Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, malt imports in Central Asia reached X tons, flattening at the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, malt imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons) represented roughly 74% of total imports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkmenistan (9.3%) and Tajikistan (4.6%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +6.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest malt importing markets in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
Among the main importing countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +5.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
