Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) dominates exports structure, together making up 95% of total exports. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +43.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) emerged as the largest marble and travertine supplier in Central Asia, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 29% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan stood at +99.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+5.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (-14.3% per year).

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 320%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, marble and travertine imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 993%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Tajikistan represented the main importer of marble and travertine in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 65% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), committing a 27% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Tajikistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the marble and travertine imports, with a CAGR of +59.9% from 2012 to 2021. Kyrgyzstan (-3.1%), Kazakhstan (-18.2%), Uzbekistan (-19.6%) and Turkmenistan (-24.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tajikistan (+65 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -9.2% and -58.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported marble and travertine in Central Asia, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Tajikistan totaled +66.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-11.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -29.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 1,141% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
