In 2021, overseas shipments of marble building stone increased by 160% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 5,749%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, marble building stone exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 3,405%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the key exporter of marble building stone, achieving 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), creating a 13% share of total exports.
Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the marble building stone exports, with a CAGR of +71.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Kyrgyzstan (+53 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) remains the largest marble building stone supplier in Central Asia, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 2.8% share of total exports.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 178% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted buoyant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan totaled $X per ton.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, the amount of marble building stone imported in Central Asia surged to X tons, increasing by 36% against 2020. Overall, imports enjoyed a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, marble building stone imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a slight expansion. Kazakhstan was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 52% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkmenistan (15%) and Mongolia (5.6%). Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+32.3%) and Tajikistan (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mongolia (-6.9%) and Turkmenistan (-9.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan increased by +23, +8.9 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported marble building stone in Central Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+32.4% per year) and Turkmenistan (-9.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
