Mate Market Size in Central Asia

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Central Asian mate market, when its value decreased by -2.1% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X kg) was the main exporter of mate in Central Asia, making up 100% of total export.

Mate imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, increasing by 524% on the previous year. In general, imports showed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, mate imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 236% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the major importer of mate, committing 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X kg), making up a 20% share of total imports.
