Mica Market Size in Central Asia
The Central Asian mica market soared to $X in 2021, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Mica Production in Central Asia
In value terms, mica production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a perceptible shrinkage. In 2019, exports of mica in Central Asia contracted remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -81.1% against 2018. Over the period under review, exports faced a sharp setback. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, mica exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2019. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Uzbekistan (X tons), together recording 100% of total export.
Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of mica. While the share of Uzbekistan (+99 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In Uzbekistan, mica exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2018-2019.
Export Prices by Country
In 2019, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 58% against the previous year. Export price indicated a significant expansion from 2018 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +57.5% over the last one-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Uzbekistan.
From 2018 to 2019, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Uzbekistan amounted to 0.0% per year.
Mica Imports
Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of mica, when their volume decreased by -12.1% to X tons. Overall, imports saw a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 156%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, mica imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 90%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Tajikistan represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 67% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), achieving a 28% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to mica imports into Tajikistan stood at -23.8%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+18.8%) and Turkmenistan (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tajikistan (+67 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -63.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mica in Central Asia, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tajikistan ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 0.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at -8.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tajikistan (-6.3% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+28.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 40% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 161%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+23.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
