Molasse Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian molasse market reduced sharply to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -15.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, molasse exports in Central Asia skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 95% against the year before. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 688% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, molasse exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a dramatic descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 388%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Kazakhstan represented the major exporter of molasses in Central Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 85% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), creating a 14% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -50.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Molasse imports declined significantly to X tons in 2022, waning by -16% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports faced a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 79%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Uzbekistan was the key importer of molasses in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 61% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (7.9%).

Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of molasses. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+104.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +104.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-22.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 94% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +62.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
