Exports in Central Asia

Motorcycle and scooter exports reduced to X units in 2020, dropping by -X% against 2019. Overall, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, motorcycle and scooter exports fell to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. from 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan represented the largest exporter of motorcycles and scooters in Central Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units), together constituting a X% share of total exports.

Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the motorcycles and scooters exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Mongolia (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2007-2020, the share of Kazakhstan (-X p.p.) and Mongolia (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) remains the largest motorcycle and scooter supplier in Central Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mongolia ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In Kyrgyzstan, motorcycle and scooter exports increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2020. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mongolia (-X% per year) and Kazakhstan (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the motorcycle and scooter export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, declining by -X% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, motorcycle and scooter export price decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan, while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2020, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of motorcycles and scooters, when their volume decreased by -X% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, Mongolia (X units) represented the key importer of motorcycles and scooters, constituting X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units) and Turkmenistan (X units), together generating a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X units) and Tajikistan (X units) - each reached a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to motorcycle and scooter imports into Mongolia stood at +X%. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+X%), Kazakhstan (+X%), Tajikistan (+X%) and Uzbekistan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. While the share of Turkmenistan (+X p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2007-2020, the share of Uzbekistan (-X p.p.) and Mongolia (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The motorcycle and scooter import price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2020, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when the import price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Tajikistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
