Narrow Woven Fabric Market Size in Central Asia
In 2021, the Central Asian narrow woven fabric market decreased by -1.1% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia
After four years of growth, shipments abroad of narrow woven fabrics decreased by -71% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 1,806%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 746% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), generating a 9.7% share of total exports. Tajikistan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to narrow woven fabric exports from Uzbekistan stood at -1.2%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+37.8%) and Kazakhstan (+19.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +37.8% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+86 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+7.6 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest narrow woven fabric supplier in Central Asia, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan totaled +30.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+32.6% per year) and Tajikistan (+26.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 184% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 553%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+32.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of narrow woven fabrics decreased by -14.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 257% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 81%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Uzbekistan was the main importer of narrow woven fabrics in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 50% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 45% share of total imports. The following importers - Turkmenistan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - each finished at a 4.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 90% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +32.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, narrow woven fabric import price increased by +59.1% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
