In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of needles, catheters, cannulae, when their volume decreased by -4.4% to X units. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 899%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, needles, catheters, cannulae exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. In 2021, Uzbekistan (X units) represented the largest exporter of needles, catheters, cannulae, constituting 54% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units), together comprising a 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X units) and Tajikistan (X units) - each amounted to a 6.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +45.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, needles, catheters, cannulae imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. While the share of Turkmenistan (+12 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+9.9 p.p.), Mongolia (+3.4 p.p.), Tajikistan (+2.4 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-29.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported needles, catheters, cannulae in Central Asia, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with an 11% share.
