Exports in Central Asia
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials decreased by -24.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 229% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, twine, cordage or textile net exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 180%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) dominates exports structure, together mixing up 95% of total exports. The following exporters - Kyrgyzstan (X kg) and Mongolia (X kg) - together made up 4.5% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Mongolia (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest twine, cordage or textile net supplier in Central Asia, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 31% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 3.7% share.
In Uzbekistan, twine, cordage or textile net exports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+3.9% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+33.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 49% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials decreased by -3.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, twine, cordage or textile net imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 66% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together generating a 29% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to twine, cordage or textile net imports into Kazakhstan stood at +4.3%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+25.8%) and Turkmenistan (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +25.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+19 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-17.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials in Central Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +3.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+26.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-9.1% per year).
