For the fifth year in a row, Central Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip, which increased by 3.4% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 170%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 116% against the previous year. Uzbekistan was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 52% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 28% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (11%). Tajikistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +27.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 89% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, which together accounted for a further 8.4%.

Turkmenistan, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
