Non-Wheat Flour Market Size in Central Asia
After two years of growth, the Central Asian non-wheat flour market decreased by -10.4% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat flour production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 27%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of non-wheat flours were exported in Central Asia; picking up by 1.7% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 201% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 320% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2021.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-wheat flours exports, with a CAGR of -1.1% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest non-wheat flour supplier in Central Asia.

Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-wheat flour export price increased by +30.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 40%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +1.8% per year.
Non-Wheat Flour Imports
Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-wheat flours decreased by -3.3% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major importer of non-wheat flours in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 50% of total imports in 2021. Mongolia (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (18%), Turkmenistan (6.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (4.9%). Tajikistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-wheat flours imports, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tajikistan (+11.7%), Turkmenistan (+7.3%), Uzbekistan (+5.7%), Kyrgyzstan (+5.2%) and Mongolia (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Uzbekistan (+18 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+5.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-2.7 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (-3.5 p.p.) and Mongolia (-17.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-wheat flours in Central Asia, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +11.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+17.8% per year) and Mongolia (+1.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) and Mongolia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
