Nonwoven Fabric Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian nonwoven fabric market expanded sharply to $X in 2022, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a buoyant expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

The total production indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -12.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 98%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of nonwoven fabrics exported in Central Asia skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 45% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 3,067% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, nonwoven fabric exports stood at $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 1,442%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the major exporter of nonwoven fabrics, committing 77% of total exports. Turkmenistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to nonwoven fabric exports from Uzbekistan stood at -15.3%. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+45.9%) and Kazakhstan (+21.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +45.9% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+77 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -44.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest nonwoven fabric supplier in Central Asia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, nonwoven fabric exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (+39.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+11.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -30.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 208%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+25.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of nonwoven fabrics decreased by -17.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 132%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nonwoven fabric imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the major importers of nonwoven fabrics in 2022, recording approx. 40% and 30% of total imports, respectively. Tajikistan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (10%) and Mongolia (4.7%). Turkmenistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +43.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest nonwoven fabric importing markets in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a combined 86% share of total imports. Tajikistan, Mongolia and Turkmenistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

Among the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +32.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
