In 2021, the amount of organic surface-active products for washing the skin exported in Central Asia fell rapidly to X tons, reducing by -19.6% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, skin organic surface-active products exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The shipments of the one major exporters of organic surface-active products for washing the skin, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the organic surface-active products for washing the skin exports, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012 to 2021. Kazakhstan (+6.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest skin organic surface-active products supplier in Central Asia.

In Kazakhstan, skin organic surface-active products exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 8.6% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to -8.5% per year.

After nine years of growth, overseas purchases of organic surface-active products for washing the skin decreased by -8.7% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, skin organic surface-active products imports totaled $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.8% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 65% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Mongolia (8.8%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.5%). Turkmenistan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to skin organic surface-active products imports into Kazakhstan stood at +10.2%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+28.1%), Kyrgyzstan (+14.6%), Tajikistan (+12.2%), Mongolia (+12.2%) and Turkmenistan (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +28.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +10 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported organic surface-active products for washing the skin in Central Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan totaled +1.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+23.7% per year) and Mongolia (+13.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
