Dry Peas Production in Central Asia
In value terms, dry peas production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 50%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The country with the largest volume of dry peas production was Kazakhstan (X tons), accounting for 79% of total volume. Moreover, dry peas production in Kazakhstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Tajikistan (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkmenistan (X tons), with a 9% share.
In Kazakhstan, dry peas production increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Tajikistan (+6.6% per year) and Turkmenistan (+0.8% per year).
In 2021, the average yield of peas (dry) in Central Asia rose slightly to X tons per ha, with an increase of 4.9% compared with the previous year. The yield indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dry peas yield decreased by -9.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the yield increased by 20%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, approx. X ha of peas (dry) were harvested in Central Asia; waning by -7.8% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, the harvested area, however, saw tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the harvested area increased by 53%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports in Central Asia
Dry peas exports reduced modestly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -4% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 142%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, dry peas exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 107%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), creating a 39% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +252.6%).
In value terms, the largest dry peas supplying countries in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X).
Among the main exporting countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +252.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 78% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dry peas export price increased by +78.3% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan stood at $X per ton.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, overseas purchases of peas (dry) increased by 202% to X tons, rising for the seventh consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) represented the key importer of peas (dry), creating 74% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Uzbekistan (8.7%). Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peas (dry) imports, with a CAGR of +46.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+26.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Tajikistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased by +51 and +8.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported peas (dry) in Central Asia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with an 8.4% share.
In Kyrgyzstan, dry peas imports expanded at an average annual rate of +45.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+16.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (+1.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) and Tajikistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Uzbekistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
