In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of petrol and oil dispensing pumps, when their volume decreased by -39.5% to X units. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 269% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, oil dispensing pump exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 204%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Kazakhstan dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X units), making up a 5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to oil dispensing pump exports from Kazakhstan stood at -20.2%. At the same time, Mongolia (+26.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +26.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Mongolia (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-4.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest oil dispensing pump supplier in Central Asia, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 3.8% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, purchases abroad of petrol and oil dispensing pumps increased by 60% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, oil dispensing pump imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the largest importing country with an import of around X units, which reached 62% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkmenistan (10%), Mongolia (5.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (5%). Tajikistan (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -5.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+37.3%) and Turkmenistan (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +37.3% from 2012-2021. Tajikistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mongolia (-8.7%) and Kyrgyzstan (-9.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan increased by +15 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported petrol and oil dispensing pumps in Central Asia, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 9.3% share.

In Kazakhstan, oil dispensing pump imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+25.4% per year) and Turkmenistan (+13.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkmenistan (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
