Crude Oil Market Size in Central Asia
In 2022, the Central Asian crude oil market increased by 4.2% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crude oil production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia
In 2022, shipments abroad of crude petroleum oil decreased by -7.6% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, crude oil exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a mild slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.
Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of crude petroleum oil. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest crude oil supplier in Central Asia.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to -1.8%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 75% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild decline. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to -1.4% per year.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of crude petroleum oil was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, faced a dramatic downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Uzbekistan was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 87% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons), making up a 13% share of total imports.
Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude petroleum oil imports, with a CAGR of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022. Tajikistan (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan increased by +81 and +10 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crude petroleum oil in Central Asia, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 6.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan was relatively modest.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 48% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crude oil import price increased by +61.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-2.4%).
